We were sad to leave the historic city of Zamora especially as the early morning start was shrouded in dense freezing fog. Once out of the city, the N630 was extremely devoid of traffic, and even the parallel motorway was hardly busy for a Saturday. It was a rolling 67km to Salamanca and unfortunately the whole day’s ride was clouded by the everlasting freezing fog. Not a view was to be had and at times visibility was down to 150m. This does have benefits as you can’t always see the steeper road sections ahead and not dampening your spirits. However, it was freezing cold particularly for us with old bones. At least we had plenty of opportunities at roadside cafés to rest and warm up along the way. We are very pleased to have reached the UN heritage city of Salamanca as this is going to be our home for the next week including Christmas. Booking.com found us an extremely comfortable studio apartment at Hall88 for less than €40 per night, so we are looking forward to exploring this rich cultural university city at leisure before returning to the saddle southwards. So it’s Felice Navidad from us and hoping all you fellow cyclists out there have a wonderful Christmas. Good luck!!
